Ayo is a Nigerian-German singer/songwriter from Cologne, Germany.

At present she lives in Paris. The music is intense and Ayo sings with a nerve and feeling. Favorites are: "How Many People", "I'm Gonna Dance" and "Real Love".

2. Decemberists - Long Live The King EP (2011)

The Decemberists is an indie folk rock band from Portland, USA. The quintet use acoustic

instruments as accordion, double bass, guitar, piano and harmonica. Strong melodies!

My favorites are "E. Watson", "Foregone", and "Burying Davy".

3. Diane Schuur - The Gathering (2011) 

Diane Schuur is a jazz singer and pianist from Takoma, USA. She has recorded at least 22 albums and won 2 Grammy awards. With a voice, dark but clear and a lovely piano play, her music is easy to like.
Often slow songs with a bit of gospel feeling. Favorites on this album are "Why Can't He Be You" and "Beneath Still Waters".

4. Eilen Jewell - Queen Of The Minor Key (2011)

Eilen Jewell is a singer/songwriter from Boise, Idaho. Most songs on the album are really good, especially the slow, country songs. The sound is warm and pleasant. Good recording!

5. Gillian Welch - The Harrow And The Harvest (2011)

Gillian Welch is a singer/songwriter from New York, USA, who moved to Nashville. She has recorded 5 albums. Her style is bluegrass. The instrumentation is usually a simple arrangement with acoustic guitars and banjos. Two songs stand out: "Dark Turn Of Mind" and "The Way It Goes". Fantastic! But there is no bad song on the album.

6. Heather Nova - 300 Days at Sea (2011)

Heather Nova is a singer/songwriter from Bermuda, UK. This full-band album is her ninth. Lovely music! Highlights are "Save a little piece of tomorrow", Everything changes", The good ship moon" and "Burning to love".

7. Lucy Ward - Adelphi Has to Fly (2011)

Lucy Ward is a singer/songwriter and folk singer from Derby, UK. She sings traditional english folk songs as well as her own material. Low key recordings, sometimes only voice-guitar or voice-piano. Beautiful! Favorite songs are "Alice in the Bacon Box" and "Maids When You're Young".

8. Lydia Loveless  - Indestructible Machine (2011)

Lydia Loveless is an alternative country/singer songwriter from Columbus, Ohio, USA. Fantastic voice and she sings with a lot of feeling! Instruments include double bass and violin. Uptempo songs. Favorites: "Can't Change Me", "How Many Women" and "Crazy".

9. Red Sky July  - Red Sky July  (2011)

Red Sky July is an alternative country band fom Texas, USA.  This is the trio´s debut album. Two beautiful female voices in harmony makes the typical sound of the album. Best songs "Morning Song", "Already Gone", "How To Get Your Love" and "Evening Song".

10. Dana Fuchs - Love To Beg (2011)

Dana Fuchs is a rock/blues singer from Florida, USA. She has a powerful voice and she sings in various genres like blues, rock, soul, and gospel. Favorites are a few of the slow songs: "Keepsake", "Keep On Rollin' " and "I've Been Loving You Too Long". (The old Otis Redding song)

11. Lucinda Williams - Blessed (2011)

Lucinda Williams is a rock, blues, folk and country singer from Louisiana, USA. This is her tenth album. The songs are mostly slow and bluesy and she sings with a fantastic feeling! My favorite tracks are: "Buttercup", "I Don't Know How You're Livin' ", "Copenhagen" and "Born To Be Loved".

12. Amy LaVere - Stranger Me (2011)

Amy LaVere is a country singer and a double bass player. She comes from Louisiana, but lives in  Nashville, Tennessee, where she makes her records. This is the third of her albums. Her voice is expressive and sounds like a little girl´s. Three songs are fantastic: "A Great Divide", "Often Happens" and "Lucky Boy".

13. Tori Amos - Night Of Hunters (2011)

Tori Amos is a singer/songwriter from North Carolina, USA. This, her twelveth album, is really something out of the ordinary. All songs are variations on classical musik. For example Bach, Chopin, Shubert. She sings duet with her young daughter on some songs. This is relaxing soft musik. Three compositions are extra good: "Snowblind", "Cactus Practice" and "Job´s Coffin".

14. Alison Krauss & Union Station - Paper Airplane (2011)

Alison Krauss is a country singer-songwriter from Illinois, USA. This is her sixteenth album. She has won 28 Grammy Awards, making her the most awarded female artist (and the second most awarded artist overall) in Grammy history. Favorites are "Paper airplane", "Lie awake" and "On The Outside Looking In".
